What is Amateur Radio

Amateur radio is a non commercial radio service where licensed people communicate using radios for self training, technical studies, and community support. It is different from broadcast or commercial radio because it does not carry paid adverts or regular mass programming.

People involved in amateur radio learn about antennas, propagation, electronics, and digital modes while talking with others locally and worldwide. Many national regulators, including in Nigeria, recognise amateur radio as a useful way to build technical skills and support emergency communication.
